| The
Municipality of Molaon, based in the town of Molaon, includes
the villages Elia, Koupia, Metamorhosis, Pakia and Sykia.
The name of the town is mentioned in a Byzantine chrysobull
of 1292. The first settlement was built at the site Panagitsa,
on the hill and was used as an acropolis. The small fort
above the town was built by the Byzantines, the Franks
or the Turks according to some sources. Archaeological
excavations have brought to light findings of the Mycenaean
era at Sykia and Byzantine mosaics in the Chalasmata area,
as well as other Byzantine findings at Aghios Nikolas
at Pakia.
In
the Municipality they cultivate mainly olive trees and
fig trees. There are sheep and goats and production
of honey and cheese.
