| The
Municipality of Elosis a center of agricultural production
in the prefecture, together with the Municipality of SKala.
It produces fair quantities of olive oil and oranges,
but garden products are dominant. It comes first in the
cultivation of peppers and eggplants. It is enough to
say that each summer a "feast of the eggplants"
is held here.
To
the Municipality belongs the big beach which starts
at Kokkinia, meets the mouth of the Eurotas River and
continues to Trinissa. The beach is one of the most
important water biotopes for the reproduction of the
sea turtle Caretta Caretta neat the Eurotas Delta, on
the border with the Municipality of Skala. The belt
of sand hills stretches along 15km, is 100 - 300 meters
wide and throbs with life. The sand lily the plover
and the sea turtle, as well as the unique Linum phitosianum,
depend on the sand hills for their survival. This belt
forms a natural barrier that prevents the salt water
and the wind from the sea from penetrating the inland.
We
know that the sea used to reach further inland, up to
Asteri and Skala. The area was gradually reclaimed and
a lake was created, which was utillized by the Monastery
of St. George, near Priniko, the present day Asteri.
