Moving. There is nothing I hate more than having to pack up clothing and personal possessions and stuffing the trunk and backseat of the car as if it were a Thanksgiving turkey. But it was moving that has kept me busy, teetering on the brim of insanity…and it was moving that accounts for the lack of updates to this column. The move came with a short notice, leaving little time for preparation. Recent storms had damaged the roof of my building and had forced me to relocate, but I am glad to announce that I am back and ready to resume writing again. To all my avid readers, I apologize for the lack of productivity, but am pleased to say that there is plenty going on in the beauty world this fall, including the release of some fantastic new products.
Y SERUM by Nexxus: This remarkable product is neither a shampoo, conditioner, or styling aid. Y Serum is a lotion that stops, and even reverses the effects of aging on the hair. Brittle hair is given strength, dull hair is given luster, and damaged hair can be practically restored to a healthy state. Miracle in a bottle? Perhaps. But certainly not cheap; a 4 ounce bottle retails somewhere in the neighborhood of $20.00. Y Serum is a mixture of amino acids, natural ingredients, and anti-oxidants. Among the natural ingredients are meadowfoam, green tea, and some kind of Japanese mushroom known as the yamabushitake. This product is aimed at middle-aged clients who desire hair that looks and feels the way it did when they were younger. The price tag is definitely high, but the product is worth every penny of it.
RISE N SHINE by Bain De Terre. One of the best products I’ve worked with recently, Rise N Shine is a foaming liquid styler, almost like a mousse. Apply to damp hair before blowdrying for amazing volume. The light foam is very misleading, you want to use a ton of it because it feels so light and airy. However, it is very concentrated, so two or three pumps from the bottle is all it takes to style a head of shoulder length hair. I now use this product on every client with fine or limp hair, and am very pleased with the results. It also gives the hair alot more shine than your typical mousse, and its low alcohol content makes it safe to use on perm and color-treated hair.
